According to the Law on Pensions (valid since 1 January 1998), persons who had reached the retirement age in the respective period of time were allotted the average size of the old-age pension.

Starting from 2000, data are recalculated in compliance with the results of the Population and Housing Census 2011.

An increase was observed in the number of persons than will receive Latvia pension while living in other EU/EEA Member State, moreover pension to which is granted in compliance with the international regulations, i.e., rights to receive pension are granted basing on the insurance period in both Latvia and other EU/EEA Member State, but each country is granting pension depending on its own insurance periods.
