Obs:

Jēkabpils, Ogre and Valmiera cities are included also in the indicator of the respective municipality. In 2025, CSB changed the method for producing population estimates. Since 2012, a logistic regression model was used, but going forward, the SoL-logit model will be applied. The methods are similar, with the main difference being that the logistic regression model is a supervised model trained on data from the Population and Housing Census 2011, whereas the SoL-logit model is unsupervised model and does not require training data.
To ensure comparability, the data for 2023 and 2024 have also been recalculated using the new method.
The population estimate published on 2 June was revised on 2 October 2025, and the usually resident population now includes foreign students.
Additional information on statistical regions. As of the data on 2017, the number of persons having declared their place of residence at their workplace (enterprise registered in Latvia) and not living Latvia actually was excluded from the number of usually resident population, therefore population number in Mārpue county shown under the indicator “Population Number at the Beginning of the Year” has declined. The changes in methodology influenced also population in Riga and Carnikava county, however less. In the 3rd quarter of 2016, when implementing project Data Collection for Sub-National Statistics (Mainly Cities), the existing algorithm used for the calculation of population territorial distribution - place of usual residence - was revised. The algorithm was improved, ensuring more precise population estimates in parishes, counties, cities and regions. The indicators on the beginning of 2016 were recalculated in line with the new algorithm. Metadata Until 2019 the shares were adjusted so that their total would comprise 100 %. Since 2020 in some cases slight discrepancies might appear in rounding of values between the total amount indicated and the total value of addends. ... = Data not available or too uncertain for presentation Time series from 1990 to 2022: IRD020.
