Metadata If a person’s period of social insurance in Latvia is insufficient to qualify for a Latvian pension, the granted pension amount may be lower than the national minimum pension. In such cases, entitlement is determined taking into account periods of social insurance completed in other EU/EEA Member States or countries with which Latvia has a social security agreement. However, the pension amount is calculated solely on the basis of pension capital accrued in Latvia. The person may also receive a pension from another country for insurance periods completed there.
For old-age pensions granted from 1 January 2023, the minimum amount may be reduced by the amount of a life annuity.
If a person is entitled to a pension but the final amount cannot be determined due to incomplete information, an advance payment not exceeding the estimated monthly pension is paid.
